In 1986, Department 56 released two new collections made of resin- Victorian Miniatures and Williamsburg Miniatures. These buildings were not based on existing village buildings or and large scale porcelain collection.

The New England Village Miniatures were released in 1987 and consists of thirteen buildings based off of numerous designs of the time. The collection includes two sets. Each building was wrapped in bubble wrap and packaged in individual, heavy corrugated, top-load cardboard boxes with black and white graphics of the building on the front.
